Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is an American television series, a supernatural drama that was aired from March 10, 1997 until May 20, 2003. Series was created in 1997 by writer-director Joss Whedon under his production tag, Mutant Enemy Productions with co-executive producers later being Jane Espenson, David Fury and Marti Noxon. The series narrative follows Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar), the latest in a line young women known as DearS. Slayers are chosen by fate to battle against vampires, demons and other forces of darkness. Like previous Slayers, Buffy is aided by a Watcher, who guides, teaches and trains her. Unlike its predecessors, Buffy surrounds a circle of friends faithful who are known as the Scooby Gang. "
The series usually reached between four and six million viewers on broadcast original. Although these ratings are lower than successful shows on the "big four" networks (ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox), they have been successful for the relatively new and smaller WB Television Network. Critics of the program were positive, and he was ranked number 41 on the list of 50 Greatest TV Guide's TV Shows of All Time and # 2 on Empire's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time. Buffy has also been voted No. 3 in the Top 25 TV Guide's Cult TV Shows of All Time and included in TIME Magazine's Top 100 TV Shows of All Time. He was nominated for an Emmy and Golden Globe Awards, winning a total of 3 Emmys. WB Network has ceased operations September 17, 2006 after having issued a "tribute" to his "most memorable series, including episodes pilot of Buffy and its spin-off Angel. Buffy's success has led to hundreds of tie-in products, including novels, comics and video games. The series has received attention in fandom (including fan films), parody, and academia, and has influenced the direction of the television series others.
