Vampire Anime
Vampire flicks have always been attractive to me as a child, I was struck by Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee. Maybe he was "Nosferatu," which started it all, but I think it was just too hideous and administrators quickly learned that one is a sexy Dracula better idea (with apologies to Max Schreck). Several other vampires have certainly left their mark, including Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Anne Rice "Interview with a vampire "and Stewart Townsend in monitoring," Queen of the Damned. " "Dark Shadows" was one of my favorite TV shows as a teenager, I would run the school in all its forms to view. So I'd be happy "Twilight" kind of goes without saying, especially with this wave of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson Mania. No smoke without fire, right?
A vampire romance film produced, directed and played by women ..... Wow. Finally. I took a course entitled "Women in History" a year ago and it is depressing to learn how the contributions women in society and the world in general has been weakened, crushed or plain destroyed. Hypatia of Alexandria was a brilliant philosopher, mathematician and astronomer and inventor who lived around 350 AD. She was murdered by a horde of monks and his works have all been burned by band fanatics. Only a certain correspondence between her and one of his students survived. Many women throughout history had to hide their sex as writers, artists and performers. You may have heard how women who want to serve their country with their breasts and went into the battle by passing for men. Virginia Woolf said: "For most of history, Anonymous was a woman." Somehow, "Twilight" symbolizes a moment of our time when women can stand toe-to-toe with men, at least in pop culture. (We still do not elect a woman as President, but that's another essay entirely.)
As a video producer I liked the pastel colors of this film. I observed creative use of filters to identify a series or a movie. For example, "CSI Miami" uses rich, beautiful colors, while "Supernatural" saturate color using pastel accents. In "Twilight," rusty red truck Bella moved across the landscape of the film as a drop blood on pale skin is an ingenue. Some special effects were excellent. When Edward Cullin Bella Swan flies at the top of the tallest tree in the forest overlooking the coast of Washington, wire work was impeccable. Edward bursts of speed, and signs of strength were cinematically delicious.
Awkward adolescent Kristen Stewart, with Robert Pattinson otherworldly 300-year-old vampire makes for mesmerizing screen chemistry. I glad they did not play "cat and mouse" with their feelings about each other for too long. Perhaps director, Catherine Hardwicke, as a woman who knows what women really want, had a heavy hand in it. Why not be just before the beginning, as Bella? Why mincing words and hide your feelings? The tension was so strong that it took almost the entire film to see two men kissing. No sex dishonest for sex here.
Bella is a girl who knows what she wants and she wants Edward, forever. And we, spectators, everyone wants to work for them. It's a good thing "Twilight 2" in the box. Bella and Edward may be young forever, but Robert and Kristen will not.
