Until recently, Anne Rice was the queen of vampire fiction with his creation of the legendary Lestat. However, in recent years with the Stephenie Meyer Twilight Saga, with Charlaine Harris True Blood, and others with their creations vampires stormed the best seller charts. But what sets most popular with legions of fans vamp lit online?

Not to quite the top ten were Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost, Vampire Diaries by LJ Smith, Undead and ... by MaryJanice Davidson, Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz, Vampire Beach by Alex Duval, Night World by LJ Smith Nikki and Michael by Keri Arthur, Mackenzie Vampires by Nina Bangs, and almost human by Melanie Nowak. The two best series on this list have also been adapted for the screen, with the Twilight Saga movies and popular television series True Blood on HBO. This may have only helped their domination in this survey. While the vast literature need not be adapted for the screen, it will clearly raise a series and put into a whole new group of fans. A Motion Picture Darren Shan (Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant) will be released in late 2009. The House of Night and Vampire Academy Films or television adaptations are almost inevitable, even if they do not seem to be close, even in production. If the new CW network television series based on LJ Smith Vampire Diaries is a success, then these books are required to be in the top ten for my next vamp lit ballot. And finally, it is good to see that icon of modern literature and a pioneer of Anne Rice vampire made the list, even if it was not in the top five. Curiously, only two of the novels of Anne Rice (Interview with a Vampire and Queen of the Damned ") has never been transformed into feature.
